Southern Suburbs skip hire, suburb by suburb
Most Southern Suburbs homes have a driveway or a yard behind the gate, so the skip usually stands on private ground with no permit needed. The exceptions are the terraced streets of Observatory and parts of Mowbray and Rondebosch, where the road is often the only spot. Low oak branches and tight cul-de-sacs are the main access checks.
| Suburb page | Typical placement | Access note |
|---|---|---|
| skip hire Bishopscourt | Measure the gate opening and tell us when you book. | The roads here are wide and quiet compared with Claremont below, but the obstacles sit in the last few metres: electric gates, intercoms, guardhouses and tree canopies hanging low over the drive. |
| skip hire Claremont | Ask the managing agent before a skip goes into complex parking. | Traffic is Claremont's main access problem. |
| skip hire Constantia | Pick hard standing, not soft lawn or a paddock. | Many Constantia lanes are narrow, with walls or hedges right up to the tar and old oaks meeting overhead. |
| skip hire Kenilworth | Measure the driveway and note any carport roof or gate motor in the way. | Most Kenilworth streets are flat, which helps a truck, but kerbside parking fills up near Main Road, Kenilworth Centre and the station. |
| skip hire Mowbray | No driveway? Sort the City permission before you book. | Mowbray streets are narrow, many with cars parked nose to tail on both sides, and some climb steeply from Main Road. |
| skip hire Newlands | Tell us about low oak branches over the street or drive. | Newlands Avenue and many side roads are lined with old oaks whose lower branches reach over the road, so tell us if the approach to your gate is tight. |
| skip hire Observatory | Get the City's written permission before you book delivery. | Observatory's streets were laid out long before skip trucks, and with cars parked on both sides many are effectively single lane. |
| skip hire Pinelands | Keep the skip off the verge unless the City has approved it in writing. | Pinelands roads are quiet and largely free of the kerb-parking crush found in neighbouring Observatory or Mowbray, so the truck usually has a clear run. |
| skip hire Rondebosch | Tell us if the drive is shared with a neighbour or a cottage. | With so many schools in a small area, Rondebosch roads crawl during the morning drop-off and the afternoon pick-up, and Main Road through the village is slow for much of the day. |
| skip hire Rosebank | Sort the City permission before booking a street placement. | Most Rosebank streets are short and narrow, and with residents' cars on both sides there is often only one lane left. |
| skip hire Wynberg | In Chelsea, sort the City permission before booking. | Wynberg Main Road carries heavy bus and minibus-taxi traffic around the station and taxi rank for most of the day, so deliveries to side streets near it take patience. |

The 2m³ skip arrives
The skip-loader truck sets the skip down on the spot you choose, normally a driveway or yard. A spot on the road or verge needs the City's written permission first.
Fill it, then collection
You get 3 days to load it to the rim. Collection and licensed disposal are in the price for rubble, garden and household waste.
Driveway or road in the Southern Suburbs
Driveway or road: the City rule
A skip on your own driveway, yard or paving needs no City permit. A skip on a public road, pavement or verge needs the prior written permission of the City of Cape Town, according to the City's Streets, Public Places and Prevention of Noise Nuisances By-law, 2007, section 10, which counts the verge as part of the road.
The application is a Temporary Use (of the road reserve) form, handed in at the Roads Infrastructure Management district office. The admin fee is R712 for 2026/27, and the City can ask for a refundable deposit. There is no online application.
